Manganês e ferro em Braun-Blanquet (1932)
Iron species are unknown, [Nota de rodapé 1: According to Vicillaid, the red soils of New Caledonia, rich in iron, are said to exhibit an entirely characteristic flora, which includes Dammara ovata, Eulassa intermedia, and Dacrydium caledonica.] with the exception of a peculiar iron-favoring community of microorganisms (Molisch, 1910). In moor [191] tussocks iron bacteria (Crenothrix polyspora, Chlamydothrix ferruginea, etc.) live on the finely divided humus releasing iron hydroxide. This product is precipitated as an intensely reddish-yellow, flaky substance, while the moor water itself appears to be covered by an iridescent, oily film. In a similar manner, it is believed, Crenothrix manganifera is active in the precipitation of manganese. (Braun-Blanquet 1932:190-1)
